Just in the Sand

Just in the Sand

In the middle of the beach
I let the sand
slip through my hands.

Hold on.
Let go.

Children build sandcastles
at the edge of the sea,
while time quietly
walks through them.

I close my eyes.

Seagulls. Waves. Wind.

And suddenly I’m that boy again
who used to play here for hours.

Now I’m sitting here.
The same sea.
A different life.

The tide comes in.
The tide goes out.

Sand between my fingers.
The sea at my feet.

An empty mind.

For a moment, nothing I have to do.
Just being.
